Wimbledon will follow the American and Australian Opens in employing replay technology.
Replay systems are set to arrive at The Championships this year.
Athletes will gain the ability to challenge specific rulings from the official, echoing the system currently in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
The new system will be operational on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This development arrives only a year after the AELTC implemented ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding tradition of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine other decisions, including:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Potential hindrance end of a rally.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of reviews a competitor can ask for.
A Recent Example
A recent example took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.
Draper conceded it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire watched a replay and determined Draper was responsible for hindrance, granting the rally to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
This technology aren't new for major tournaments. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system in place at every one of its tournaments.
Other Changes
A further change at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves situations where spectators have occasionally been unsure if a shot was in or out.
In other news, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have also announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
